Covariant description for superfluids in gravitational fields

چکیده

In this paper we develop a formalism to describe a superfluid in a gravitational background. This formalism is based on a covariant generalization of the field description for a superconductor in terms of a U(1) spontaneous symmetry breaking. We study the stability of the solutions for a vortexless fluid and the force acting on vortices in the fluid, which is a generalization of the wellknown flat space-time Magnus force. To clarify the development we include the explicit discussion of two particular cases, one of them of astrophysical interest. 04.62.+v, 04.90.+e Typeset using REVTEX 1

The 5D Fully-Covariant Theory of Gravitation and Its Astrophysical Applications

In this paper, we comprehensively review the five-dimensional (5D) fully-covariant theory of gravitation developed by Zhang two decades ago and its recent applications in astrophysics and cosmology. This 5D gravity describes not only the fields, but also the matter and its motion in a 5D spacetime. The greatest advantage of this theory is that there does not exist any unknown parameter, so that...

Spherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory

In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...

We develop and apply a fully covariant 1 + 3 electromagnetic analogy for gravity. The free gravitational field is covariantly characterized by the Weyl gravito-electric and gravito-magnetic spatial tensor fields, whose dynamical equations are the Bianchi identities. Using a covariant generalization of spatial vector algebra and calculus to spatial tensor fields, we exhibit the covariant analogy...

Differentiation along Multivector Fields

The Lie derivation of multivector fields along multivector fields has been introduced by Schouten (see cite{Sc, S}), and studdied for example in cite{M} and cite{I}. In the present paper we define the Lie derivation of differential forms along multivector fields, and we extend this concept to covariant derivation on tangent bundles and vector bundles, and find natural relations between them and...

Running coupling constants, Newtonian potential, and nonlocalities in the effective action.

We consider a quantum scalar field on an arbitrary gravitational background. We obtain the effective in-in equations for the gravitational fields using a covariant and non-local approximation for the effective action proposed by Vilkovisky and collaborators. From these equations, we compute the quantum corrections to the Newtonian potential. We find logarithmic corrections which we identify as ...
